In China the bodhisattva of Compassion Avalokitesvara took the name Guanyin. The outlines stand out on the plain white of the face, covered with a delicate craquelure. The hair is wavy on the forehead, the elegant chignon tied by a red ribbon at the top of the head adds solemnity to the face and elongates its perfect oval. Buddhist art managed to describe in this piece the infinite compassion and the profound benevolence of the great bodhisattva Avalokitesvara. Dating confirmed by C14 test.
